Mrs. Toad is Getting Social

Okay, I've put it off long enough. I kept thinking that this social media thing is just a fad, but it just won't go away. So, I'm finally giving in to the pressure and have set up some social media.

Now, I gave in to my personal Facebook earlier this year. Since I was using my personal Facebook for everything, but have decided that my real world friends really could care less about flat fell seams and how many times I have had to rip out a seam to make it lay flat.

So, I set up a Mrs. Toad Sews personal blog page on Facebook.

Before I set up the Mrs. Toad Sews Facebook page, I had set up a Twitter account. I have been using this to tweet my posts and an occasional idea or thought here and there.

Pinterest was my next adventure into the social media pool. Guess what. It is actually fun and useful. I'm sure I'm not using it to its full potential, but I have been playing with it for a few months.

Now Instagram is very new to me. I set it up a few months ago. The most entertaining aspect is when Middle Son saw the Instagram app on my phone. This might keep him from wanting his own account.

At the time of writing this, I am following 2 and have 4 followers and have 0 posts. Every time, I have tried to post, I stop. Hopefully, I will figure it out and start posting too.

For those with Google Plus, I've had that set up for a while too. I really just use it to announce my posts. I also use it to follow some great blogs. I do have to admit that Google+ is a pain. I have had a Mrs. Toad Sews page since January, but I ended up not using it because it was more difficult. Most of the blogs that I follow on Google+ are on my personal account--but I'm in the process of switching.

I almost forgot that for that I've been on Bloglovin for many months. If you haven't used it, it is pretty great. It is a great way to follow all the blogs you read in one place. It also allows for organizing. For example, I categorize by knitting, sewing for kids, quilting, crafting, etc. Then I can read them by category.

If you haven't already, go ahead and use one or more of the above to avoid missing my posts.

What social media are you currently using?

  1. I'm so bad at social media. I don't have an account on anything. But I've been thinking of joining instagram.

    1. I've avoided forever! I mostly just follow to keep up with others. I've been working at interacting more. I posted my first Instagram yesterday. It was odd having one of my 13 year old son's friends favorite and comment on it!

    1. Thanks, Amanda. The buttons on the side bar were from Add This. It requires a free registration and it looks like they have every button. You just fill in each of your user names for each account. The ones in the post, I got from each site. So, I had to Facebook to get tbere badge, the to Pinteresr, etc.

  4. I'm pretty good with Facebook but it seems like I'm always out of the conversations on twitter or I'm not on there when the other cool sewing kids are playing :)

    1. I rarely catch the cool sewing kids! I mostly catch the Christian music artists and authors that I follow. There are a few others tbat I see. It does seem a little creepy to respond to others when I don't really know them. I have had a pattern designer retweet one of my projects using her pattern. Now that was kind of cool!

  5. Welcome to social media overload! I have all of these accounts but I don't really use them. If I kept up with all of them I won't have time to sew!

    1. I'll be honest, I'm far from consistent. I also only allow myself a few minutes here and there. It would be too easy to spend many hours keeping up, especially with all of the blogs that I try to read.

  6. I limit my use of social media or a wouldn't get anything else done :). I do think it is a good idea to target your social media to the audience, so a separate page on FB is a great idea.

    1. I agree, Sarah Liz. Social media can easily take over. I can't imagine how some who are extremely active get anything done.
